Just a quick little blog here today about an amazing fish batter that I discovered over the weekend when I went fishing with the family. Over the weekend me and my family went down to our cottage in Muskoka to do some fishing. It was your typical fishing weekend, wake up at 5am get the boat ready and on the water for 6am and by around lunch time hopefully you will have caught some nice fish to eat.
Like most families when we go fishing we usually just fry, steam, or smoke our fish when cooking. And it's always the same old batter that my dad uses every time we fry fish. Not to say his isn't great, because it really is. But sometimes you need some change in life after 20 years. After every fishing trip once we have caught our limit we always go to the local supermarket to grab anything we need to use for cooking lunch or dinner. It's usually always the same stuff, except for this one time. This time when we went to grab the ingredients for the beer batter I stumbled across what I think is the best invention ever! PRE MADE FISH BATTER!
Some of you might already know what it is, but its call Fish Crisp. It's almost like Shake N' Bake for those of you who remember what that is. It's a box of pre mixed fish batter, all you need to do is add liquid and you're good to go. The options of flavours are out of this world too! You have your original mix, Garlic & Butter, Cajun, Italian, AND........ Beer Batter!
All you need to do is scale your fish and then just throw it into a bowl with the mix already in it. Just lightly coat any fish you caught and simply fry it up. It taste great and best part about it is you don't need a kitchen to prepare everything. It's a must if you're going out camping with the friends or family, and maybe if you're sneaky enough you can tell everyone that you made the mix too. I won't tell anyone I swear.
So don't forget guys, next time you go fishing make sure you bring some Fish Crisp pre made batter with you. Because once you taste these great flavours you'll never go back to plain old home made mixes.
