Today was my first open water trip of the season. I fished From the pier and used spoons. No fish and no hits. The water was still muddy. There have been reports of bows and salmon being caught. It was fun anyway. Saw five others fishing but no luck. Too bad the ice fishing season was so short this year. I'm ready for spring fishing!
Early fall / Late summer is the second best time to fish. Timing is very important. The technique is similar to the summer by starting at the right temperature. This time of year compared to July, there are more fish, larger fish and you will catch a greater variety of species in the same location. The Salmon will have begun to move in closer to shore so you may not have to travel too
Summer is a tough time to locate salmon and trout as the water has warmed up especially on the southern end of the lake. Mid July is the toughest fishing we get all season on lake Huron. The pier is a great place to fish if you do not own a boat. You can catch a variety of fish including bass (when in season), pike, salmon, trout, catfish, perch, and walleye. Salmon and trout can be caught in early spring and fall and bass are caught when the season opens. Pike are caught often. Time of day is very important when pier fishing. Best times are first light till 11 am, and 5pm
