Greatest Fishing Tips

Safety, Safety and one more Safety.
It does not matter how you are fishing but you should keep your Safety in mind at all times. For us Kayakers at minimum, a PFD , a light, a whistle and a communication device! Let somebody know where you planning on fishing. Do not fish alone if you are new to the Sport. Keep an Eye on the Weather, things can change fast. No bait in the world is going to help you if you find yourself in trouble. For Kayakers it is a good idea to practice self rescue under different weather conditions.
There are other things to keep in mind. During the summer, hydration and sunscreen come to mind.
No matter if you fish from shore, a boat or a kayak, leave the alcohol at home. You are not safe if you are impaired .I could give you some great advice on how to catch some great game fish but I do feel that none of that is important if you are not safely enjoying our sport.

So my best and greatest fishing advice is: Stay safe and make sure safety stays on your mind, while you catching that Trophy Fish

Good Sportsmanship on the Water

While it is fresh on my mind, again! I thought I would write a few words about good sportsmanship on the Water. This morning my boyfriend Mark, our friend William and I went Kayak fishing in Rudee Inlet. The entire area by the launches is a No Wake Zone. A beautiful morning, a bit crisp and a bit windy. However for October an awesome morning. Please keep in mind we are in Kayak's. Kayak

Task 18 : My favorite Fish and why

nu=3248>3.jpg" />nu=3248>3.jpg" /> My favorite fish is the Red, it has many different names. Red Drum,  Red Fish, Puppy Drum, Channel Bass, Spot Tail, Drum, well at least these are some of the more common names for my favorite target Fish. The Latin name is Sciaenops ocellatus. The Red is not open to commercial fishing here in Virginia and many other states. It is very strictly

Task 17 My personal superstition Story. The dreaded Banana

Under any normal circumstance, well with one or two exceptions, I do not buy into some of the myths or superstitions. However I do have a story for this task. Last year we were on a roll fishing. Great times, lots of fish, many hours on the water. Again keeping in mind I fish from a Kayak. Saturday: All around great. Tides were in our favor an easy paddle out. Catching Reds. We were on

Task 16: Fishing Collections

People that know me well know that I have a pig collection. They are all different and 99 % of the ones I have, were given to me. People that don't know me that well and probably many of my closest friends, would not know how much fishing stuff I have collected. This Girl still has the plastic lure which I caught the first Red on. As a Woman, there are a few things I pride myself in

Aging on the Water and loving it , reality check !

So lately all these age related things seem to be popping out at me. Probably because my Birthday is near, I am not ashamed to say I will be 46. By all means not a senior citizen but by all means of the definition middle aged. I would consider myself a bit a of an '' age rebel'' At 40 I got a rather large Tattoo. At 41 I got my motorcycle license, pretty much something new with every year

Hello my name is Kirsten but nobody ever calls me that unless I did something wrong, so Kris is just fine :) I love to fish, prefered method is from a Kayak. But you will not catch me turning down any oppertunity to fish. Fresh or Salt, Flyfishing .... most of the time I fish with artificial lures. Freshwater is a bit more frustrating to me and I will resort to worms here and there. It is important to me to get others involved or interested in the sport. So I spend part of my time volunteering my time at events.
