This is my first blog as an Ambassador of Kingston -Shore fishing.
I'd just like to say hello to everyone, HELLO!
I haven't moved to Kingston yet. I'm actually packing up right now. I will be moving on September 30th - 2010.
I currently live in Ottawa but my girlfriend got a nursing job in Kingston, so I got were she goes. I'm not going to complain about it since I will be able to fish one of the great lake, Lake Ontario. I'm quite excited to fish in Kinston since I've heard and seen videos of people catching some huge fish in this area. I'll only get to fish from shore which is what my blogs will be about. I'll be all over the place fishing as many shore locations as I can all season long. Well, thats it for my introduction I suppose but I will leave saying that Ottawa has great places to fish although I can never caught anything bigger then a pound, since I refuse to use live bait. I try what the pros do and use and try to see what works for me and what doesn't. Doesn't help not having a car to bring ALL my lures, I make due with a small tackle box that I load up with what I beleive will be needed for that day. My friend and I went fishing Saturday, September 25th and my friend who normally uses worms to fish decided to buy minnows this time. I don't know how he does it but he always picks the right lures and bait to use. He was catching bass after bass with the minnows and I wasn't catching anything. I tried all the spots fish should have been around, heck I even tried were he was and still nothing. This is a picture of him and his big bass, it weighed 1.32LB. He caught it using a 6LB mono and a regular hook with his minnows.

I used jigs, cranks, spoons of various size and colour, even Gulp Gobbies, they looked excatly the same as the minnows and still he out fished me...again! I told him the game will change once he comes visit me in Kingston and we fish Lake Ontario, he laughed and said "we'll see".
He also catches things that you would only think you would see in a cartoon!

He was all excited, he though he had a big fish, he rod was bending allot and "it was fighting".
I've never laughed so hard when I saw what he was fighting with...LOL! SOCK!!! He caught a sock!
Anyways guess I'll leave it at that. Gotta pack some more boxes and get ready for tomorrows adventure to Kingston for job hunting...and of course, some fishing! =P Hello again, have some good fishing.
My ultimate type of fishing fresh water bass and pike fishing. I LOVE crank baits they are just so much fun and you can't go wrong using them. I just started using soft plastics and have been quite successful so this year I'll be doing allot of flipping and pitching. I find fishing rivers and small lakes to be more fun then the larger lakes.
I haven't posted anything in a little while, but I also haven't gone fishing in a little while either.I went out to Kingston Mills with a co-worker on Saturday June 11. 2011, and I managed to catch my personal best Bass, I know its out of season but it was a quick release so no pictures. I actually caught 3LM Bass, all 2LB. I was pretty happy with my day, although I was fishing for
Well, finaly got a job in Kingston but nows it Winter and I don't fish in the winter as much as I do in the Summer. I'm even more excited for Spring since I just bought a Abu Garcia Vendetta 6'6" MH paired up with a Shimano Caenan Baitcaster. So Ill be reviewing this set up once Spring comes around for those thinking about this rod or reel. Once Spring hits Ill be blogging allot more. So
My favourite lure has to be this Cotton Cordell Big O Bass Fishing Lure. The picture shows the pearl one, but I use the silver version. It cost me $7.99 at Canadian Tire and it was thanks to this lure that I caught my first decent sized pike. Every time this lure hits the water I didn't have to wait long to get a got solid bite. Ok, I found a picture of the one I use, Chrome/Black Back. Bass

My name is Darren Shalla and I'm 27 years old. I just got back into fishing (broke my old rod and could afford a new one till this year) and have been hitting the shores at least 3 times a week. I just moved to Kingston, Ontario and I hope I can provide the community with a newbies perspective on fishing this city. I'm very excited to fish lake Ontario. My blogs will consist of shore fishing, what spots are good, bad, what lures too use when and how, based on the certain section of the city I'm fishing in. I'm hoping to deliver an educational experience for people new to the city, with pictures, videos and of course blogs.
