My Weekend of Kingston Fishing

Posted On June 13, 2011
I haven't posted anything in a little while, but I also haven't gone fishing in a little while either.I went out to Kingston Mills with a co-worker on Saturday June 11. 2011, and I managed to catch my personal best Bass, I know its out of season but it was a quick release so no pictures. I actually caught 3LM  Bass, all 2LB. I was pretty happy with my day, although I was fishing for pike, I wont complain. I also went out today Sunday June 12, 2011, and caught a 2LB SM Bass. This is starting to be a great year for fishing for me, with all the perch and pan fish I've been catching, and with my FIRST Musky on Thursday, May 19, 2011 on the Rideau River in the BarrhavenArea in Ottawa, also out of season. It measured 24" and weight about 3LB4OZ. These where all caught from shore. Kingston Mills is a great place to catch a variety of fish although it is over fished so it can be hard to find the right presentation that they will eat. But the dock at the bottom of the locks is quite long and gives plenty of room to work the banks. The top of the locks is also a nice spot of SM Bass and pan fish. My SM Bass was caught at the Cataraqui Cove on King Rd. The bites weren't that great and the wind was to strong. I had issues keeping the bow out of my line even with the tip of my rod down near the water. It was the only one I caught but was still a fun day. Ill be going fishing again next weekend with a friend of mine that is coming down from Ottawa. This time we will be renting a boat and fishing Loughborough Lake. Ill post our adventure after it happens. Take care and tight lines.

Ultimate Type of Fishing

My ultimate type of fishing fresh water bass and pike fishing. I LOVE crank baits they are just so much fun and you can't go wrong using them. I just started using soft plastics and have been quite successful so this year I'll be doing allot of flipping and pitching. I find fishing rivers and small lakes to be more fun then the larger lakes.

What is your favourite lure to use when catching your favourite fish?

My favourite lure has to be this Cotton Cordell Big O Bass Fishing Lure. The picture shows the pearl one, but I use the silver version. It cost me $7.99 at Canadian Tire and it was thanks to this lure that I caught my first decent sized pike. Every time this lure hits the water I didn't have to wait long to get a got solid bite. Ok, I found a picture of the one I use, Chrome/Black Back. Bass

My name is Darren Shalla and I'm 27 years old. I just got back into fishing (broke my old rod and could afford a new one till this year) and have been hitting the shores at least 3 times a week. I just moved to Kingston, Ontario and I hope I can provide the community with a newbies perspective on fishing this city. I'm very excited to fish lake Ontario. My blogs will consist of shore fishing, what spots are good, bad, what lures too use when and how, based on the certain section of the city I'm fishing in. I'm hoping to deliver an educational experience for people new to the city, with pictures, videos and of course blogs.
