My Assignment, Personal Records

Posted On January 19, 2012
I am not one to brag about my accomplishments, maybe it is a good thing or a weakness. As a charter captain I do have to "brag" a little to attract customers, however it has to be factual, not a fishing story. Here is my first "personal record" I caught a thirty pound freshwater drum. It is fact, unfortunately it was during a bass tournament so I could not get it to the NYS DEC for certification otherwise it would be the new state record.
My next "record" is that I out fished Bassmaster Elite Angler Dustin Wilks on Lake Gaston. Sept 25, 2009 I was his co-angler, in an FLW Everstart Tournament on day two he zeroed and I caught one bass just minutes before we headed to the weigh-in. He looked stunned, and asked how I did that. We were fishing docks and the guy in the back is usually in trouble in that situation. I looked him square in the eye and told him not to despair that I was a professional and do this for a living. He asked me not to tell anyone so keep this quiet.
My third record is that I caught a bag of five Lake Erie Smallies that weighed 27 lbs 11 oz. It was during a bragging rights only tournament in Erie Pa. between outdoor writers and state biologists. It was a tournament record. The bite was so good that I stopped culling half way through
the fish kept getting bigger it was ridiculous.
My fourth record is from the "tournament in Erie I caught my largest smallmouth bass it 6lbs 7oz.
I have a bunch of other records over the years my biggest walleye is 9.97 lbs but I have had customers catch walleye over 11 pounds.  Well, that is it for now if you want to learn more you can visit my website http://www.gr8lakesfishing.com there are lots of pictures there; better yet come out fishing with me and make a couple of you own personal records!

January Fishing in Western New York

Jan 17, 2011    Last night the thermometer dipped below zero so most of the opportunities to fish are going to be on "hardwater". Despite the cold Lake Erie is not safe yet to go out on but give it a couple weeks. Right now all the inland lakes have safe ice. Chautauqua Lake, my favorite is giving up good catches of perch and the occasional walleye. Get a Hot Spot map for the lake
