On this day I had the pleasure of fishing with Adrian Smith from the monster metal band Iron Maiden. I picked him up from his hotel in downtown Toronto at around 1pm. We didn't have much time left in the day so Toronto Bassin' was our best option. As we drove to the boat ramp we had some time to talk. I apologized to him for not being too familiar with his albums because I grew up listening to Hip Hop, Adrian laughed and thought that was hilarious. I think this guy loved to fish and didn't really care what music I listened to. We continued to talk about different places and fishing experiences we've both had in the past. This dude was too cool and as real as it gets for someone of his celebrity status. Since meeting him I've been checking out their albums. It's really funny how fishing can open up doors like the types of music you listen to, lol!
As for fishing, we had a great day. Adrian caught four nice Largemouth one of which was just over four pounds and seven Smallmouth. I had him rigged with spinning gear with weightless creatures and Baby Slammers. He also caught a big Drum/Sheephead. Adrian really loved catching that Sheephead because of the stubborn fight it gave him. This made me realize we should appreciate those "other" species here in Canada. He caught the Largemouth on the edges of slop and docks and the Smallmouth and Drum off of break walls. It was amazing how fast he picked up the techniques I taught him. I guess all those years of guitar playing had helped his touch. After the day was done he said he would be coming back with his son to do some more fishing with me after his new album was completed. Can't to get out with Adrian again to do some more Heavy Metal Bassin'!
