Nashville's Bass Pro Shops Grand Re-Opening!

Some of you may not have even heard of the devistation that we saw in Tennessee on May 1st through the 3rd of 2010. The flood did not get as much media attention as the gulf oil spill or other events such as Katrina. But to many in my region it was the worst disaster in their lifetime. Many of the citizens of Nashville were spending the night in shelters for days to escape rising floodwaters that threatened downtown Nashville. The devastating thunderstorms that brought the flood was responceable for killing at least 19 people. Authorities in Tennessee were preparing for more deaths and for the Cumberland River, which winds through the Music City, to crest at 10 feet above flood stage before sunrise, putting portions of downtown in danger of the kind of damage experienced by thousands of residents whose homes were swamped by flash floods.

The Cumberland River had reached record levels since the flood control project was put in place several years ago. With so much water inundating the Cumberland's tributaries, no one knew if the river would stop at 50 feet or exceed the forecast, increasing the water's spread in the city.

But I have some great news! The businesses are ready to re-open and get back to work providing goods and services to customers once again. And many are planning many events to help those people that were affected by the flood. My heart was broken when I discovered that my favorite supplier of fishing gear Bass Pro Shops had been closed due to the flooding.

I cannot wait to be part of the celebration when they re-open. According to Katie Mitchell, Public Relations Communications Specialist for Bass Pro Shops, they will be hosting a Grand Re-Opening of the Nashville store on Oct. 14th that will feature celebrity guests, a ribbon-cutting and special exhibits and displays. The group will be doing a "Special Night for Nashville" with a donation to local flood recovery efforts. They are still are working out the details and once Katie provides more information I will be certain to share it with you.

I am so glad the store will once again be open, I know I can order on-line, but there is nothing like being in one of those Outdoor World Stores, It is an anglers paradise. I have actually done with out some of my favorite lures just to go to the store when it opens. If any of you are passing through the area, be sure to stop in and welcome them back, and help those less fortunate who lost everything a few months ago. Once again Bass Pro Shops is being a great friend to people in need and to us anglers.

There is a great U-Tube video that shows the flood for what it was. Check out the video here:

A Jig for the Wacky Rig

Post Spawn Patterns

Often beginners to the sport of bass fishing will fish the banks and visual cover like docks, stumps and so on. Some days this works very well, and other times they will not catch a single fish. And when they catch a bass, the next time they are on the water, they will return to the same spot, with the same lure even during a different time of day, month or season and wonder why there are

Match the Forage in Every Way

One of the best tactics is to match your lure to the local forage the bass are eating. Match the size, color and shape of the forage as closely as you can, and it will produce bass. This is very important in clear water. In the north a tube mimics gobies very well, and in the south and Midwest with the correct color can appear as crawfish or a baitfish. Determining what the forage is and

Cranking Post Spawn Bass

In late spring following the spawning activities of bass, the shad and bluegill will be spawning in relation to docks, rock ledges and riprap banks. One of the most productive baits that can cover more water quickly and stay in the strike zone longer in these areas is a crankbait. When fishing these areas boat position is a critical part of your presentation. The key to catching post
