Here's the info on the Mexico trip. This is your invitation to go with us on a once in a lifetime fishing trip to Mexico next year. Simms Outdoors will be hosting a media event at our Lake Mateos Bass Lodge on Lake Mateos in Sinaloa, Mexico. The dates are February 19th to the 26th 2012, the absolute best time of the year for trophy bass fishing in Mexico. This week also coincides with the new moon solunar peak period, so all of the days that we will be down there will be peak days to be fishing, the best 6 days of the best month of the year. While its often snowing in our part of the world, the weather at Mateos at this time of year is usually sunny or party cloudy and ranges from about 60 degree night time lows to around 80 degrees for daytime highs. Mateos is the lake that we go to for television and magazine work. Mateos is now the best bass fishing lake in all of Mexico. During peak periods, it is possible to experience catches of up to 200 bass per boat per day or even more, and few places in the world can match the lake's opportunity to produce a double digit bass. The lake has produced countless bass over 10 pounds and many fish in the teens. Mateos produced two bass last year over 14 pounds, and the biggest bass ever caught in the body of water incredibly weighed over 18 pounds. Mateos has the potential to produce a new world record. The most amazing thing about this lake is the sheer numbers of big bass, and its incredible how many bass are taken between 5 and 10 pounds. I've fished bass on the best waters with top guides all over the States and Canada, and nothing has ever compared to the bass fishing at Mateos. We fly into the Culiacan International Airport, and then its just a short 45 minute drive into a remote area of the Sierra Madre Mountains of western Mexico, not far from the coast. The scenery on the lake is as incredible as the fishing, and photos are awesome. I made my first trip to Mateos in 2006 on a media event hosted by Shakespeare & Pflueger Fishing Tackle and absolutely fell in love with the lake and its fishing. All serious fishermen have to make a trip for south of the border bass in their lifetime and this is going to be the best opportunity by far. You can go to www.simmsoutdoors.com click on the Guide Services & Vacations section and then the Lake Mateos button. There's a ton of info and 3 photo scollers loaded with pics. We are taking either one or two TV crews down there with us to film, and everyone that goes will get to be on at least one television show. We'll also be shooting photos for later magazine work as well. Airfare is separate, but is also another advantage on this trip, because we'll try to get everyone to fly in together in one or two big groups if possible, which makes the travel easier and more fun too. The lodge sits on top of a bluff on the Humaya River. The packages are all inclusive. Ground transportation, lodging, daily maid service, all food & drinks, boats, equipment, rods and guides are all included. The chef prepares first rate food, both Mexican and American, and the frozen margaritas are unlimited and awesome, along with the cervezas. This will be a full week package (6 full days of guided fishing and 7 nights lodging). We've worked out a discount deal with the lodge for the group that is coming along with our media team, which will be $2195 per person. If any of you would like to bring a fishing partner along with you on the trip, they will also get your discounted rate. While many Mexican lakes have gone down hill because of increased fishing pressure on smaller lakes that can't handle their many lodges, Mateos has been getting better and better, and is probably at its peak now. Mateos has the lowest fishing pressure of any major Mexican bass lake with only two lodges. The locals usually only fish with nets for tilapia, so Mateos bassin is like pike fishing is on fly-in lakes in the arctic, where some fish have certainly never seen a lure before. The 9th largest reservoir in the country, Mateos spans 55,000 acres of water with depths to over 230 feet. Its usually clear to lightly stained water, but despite its clarity, it fishes very shallow because of the low fishing pressure. You can catch fish on almost anything, but spinnerbaits, crankbaits and topwaters are usually the best choices. Ray Simms and I went down with Harry and Cathy Canterbury of Adventure Sports Outdoors TV in February of last year. We weren't able to hit the new moon solunar peak on that trip, like we will be doing this time, and the lake still produced the best bass fishing that any of us have ever seen, including double digit fish and amazing numbers of big bass each and every single day. This trip will be even better, as this will be the first time that we've been able to schedule it just perfectly to hit the new moon solunar peak in February. So, mill it over and get back with me. Hope to hear from you guys soon.
