What is coming up in South Texas for February?

Posted On January 31, 2012
The great thing about South Texas is we can fish all year! Now in the heat of the summer, we may have to fish at night, but we can fish all winter, the lakes and rivers do not freeze over. Now don’t get me wrong, it does get cold down here, at least for us. This past tournament on January 14, we had ice on the floor in the boat, but if you dress properly, you can fish. So what is happening in February? Well besides a fun fishing trip or two at our local lakes, we will be fishing in the South Texas Catfish Association Tournament on February 11, 2012 at Lake Bastrop. We have never fished this lake before and will only have a few hours the day before to get on the water and check the lake out. It is a power plant cooling lake similar to two of our local lakes, so hopefully the pattern carries over. This is a channel cat lake, so our report will not include any big blue cats. We have studied a topo map of the lake and have already selected a few spots to drift fish. So that is it for February, stay tuned for a full tournament report, then in March we will be REAL busy, fishing two tournaments and running a youth tournament! More on those later.

Ice Fishing In South Texas

Our next challenge is to discuss ice fishing. Ok, here in South Texas the closest we come to ice fishing is if you have some ice in your drink while fishing. Alright, to be honest, I have had ice on the floor of the boat while fishing because it does dip below freezing now and then, but our water ways do not freeze up in the winter. Many Texans put away the fishing gear in the late fall and get
