Personal Bests

I'm one of those guys that actually likes keeping score. I'm not a tournament fisherman, so even though I spend a small fortune on my fishing passion (Ok, addiction)... It's not the money that I track. It's the biggest fish of each species that matters to me. Now, even though I fish everything from shallow creeks to deep lakes, Iconsider myself to be primarily a river fisherman. My personal best fish of all time (weight-wise) is a giant 47lb flathead catfish that caught using an Abu Garcia Ambassador reel and a 10ft Ugly Stik rod using a large Warmouth for bait. I caught him about 2 a.m. the day after my birthday a couple of year ago, so the date sticks in my mind. I've probably done more musky fishing than anything else over the years and a 20 pounder is the biggest I've ever landed, but I've had a couple on that was probably double that weight. My biggest largemouth bass is 6 lb. I caught my biggest brown and rainbow trout on the same trip. The rainbow was over 21 inches and the brown over 22 inches. Can't claim any real big smallmouth bass yet, several in the 2 lb range, but hoping for one bigger this season perhaps. What might hit that very next cast is what keeps us going as fishermen isn't it? Tight lines and good fishing...

A Fisherman's Hliday Wishes...

Husbands watching all the great new gear they're advertizing on the WFN and wishing that he had been born rich instead of so good looking. (Yeah, right!) The wife walks in... Wife: What do you want for Christmas this year dear? Husband (Lieing through his teeth of coarse): Well, I haven't really given it much thought honey. I suppose a little 20 or 21 foot Bass Boat would do the

Winter Boat and Gear Maintenance & Hook Sharpening Season

I refer to winter as Hook Sharpening Season. Generally in Kentucky, that's about all it's good for during January and February. We do occaisionally get a mild winter and I manage to get a day or two of musky fishing in if the river isn't too high. Winter can actually be good for musky and striper fishing IF it happens to be (again) a mild winter. For those winters that aren't so mild I like to

Top 5 Fishing Hot Spots in Kentucky

I've heard that Kentucky's big two (Kentucky & Barkley) is some of the finest fishing you could ever hope for, but since I live in central Ky, I'm going to tell ya more about some of the hot spots that I'm much more familiar with and get to fish on a more regular basis... No.1  I'm an ole' river rat  with a first love for musky fishing, so my first choice

So, where’s my favorite fishing spot...

I'm the type of guy that doesn't get hung up too easily, but having to pin down just one all time favorite fishing spot has really made me think. I'll have to admit that I prefer rivers over lakes and like most everyone else I enjoy catching big fish over little fish. Then there's always wading and stream fishing as I did as a small boy. Man... None of this is really helping! Ok,

I'm a multi-species fisherman with a passion for catching anything that swims in fresh water. I'm just as happy fishing for trout in a secluded mountain stream as I am searching for big cats in a wild unexplored river or chasing monster muskies and striper in a beautiful southern lake or reservoir.
