How did I get my first real fishing boat – Part 3 (Rolling The Boat On The Streets)

Posted On December 19, 2011
The motor drama was still on. I needed to put all together, and when I did I was not sure that was going to start. Got a big recycle bin, filled with water and put the motor in. Cranked and cranked for a good half hour and nothing. I decided to take top part off and start the motor with my drill. After cranking the motor for about 5 minutes, I was very happy that finally was working!!! Finally I could say that my investment was ready to hit the water!!!

Now, for the first time I transported the boat got, I had it on top of my SUV and I did not find it very user friendly. It was okay but the process was not fast enough and alone it would just a question of time to have the vehicle scratched.   Since I live literally 600 yards from the water, I decided to try to haul the boat somehow. I was looking for some solutions and then finally I came across a kayak dolly, strong enough to hold the weight.

The idea was simple: get the boat from the backyard and move to the driveway, put all the fishing gear inside and the attached the motor, safety equipment and attach the dolly to the stern of my little blue boat. Ready to hit the road….

And there was me on the street hauling my boat by hand in the little dolly. People walking by, driving by and even in their houses they were looking at me as if I was from another planet – but at least they had a smile in their faces. I am 100% sure that they were thinking that I was nuts – they were not far from the truth!!!

Sweating under the spring sun, finally I got the water accompanied by two of my kids. Took off the dolly and put inside the boat. We paddled a little bit and then I decided to start the motor. For my surprise, the motor started at once and we had a good time in the Ottawa River not having really an obligation to fish. That was great!!!!   Finally I could be considered one of the most now and angler and boater. Just needed to catch a fish with my new toy to prove it… That history is in the next blog…

Alabama Rig Controversy

I just read the news about B.A.S.S. prohibiting the use of the Alabama Rig and other multi-lure rigs  in the Bassmaster Classic and the Bassmaster Elite Series. Those are really big news. As recreational angler, I was quite excited about the prospect of getting more bass with the Alabama Rig. But pondering about pros and cons, I slowly started to think that its can be a bad idea. I do

Alabama Rig

Hey Folks, I was reading on WFN's main page the news about the Alabama Rig. I read the pros and cons about it and I was quite convinced to try it. Since I am an angler from Ottawa Capital Regions - that means that I fish in both Quebec and Ontario sides - I decided to check how many hooks can I her allowed for fishing in my area. The news in the article said that in Ontario, we are allowed to

Fishing with my kids...

My wife says that I expend too much time fishing. I agree with that... It can be very positive as: "I expand so much time fining that I will go PRO in few seasons"... Or it can be negative as she meant: less time with family. I know I am an angler that likes to go for the big fishes (who doesn't?), and I had much fun catching them. But, nothing is better than get out in the water with family. To

Brown Trout Stocking - Ottawa River

Yesterday I was talking to a local angler in Aylmer- Quebec during what could be the first ice fishing with success on the waters (or ice) of the Ottawa River. This seasoned angler said told me about the brown trout population increase. So I decided to research about it.  I found some information in Ontario Government websites, but there is a little bit more on private webpages. In one of

I was very surprised when I got selected as WFN Ambassador. Being from the Capital Region in Canada, I do have the privilege of fish both in Ontario and Quebec provinces. And this is a fascinating thing: fishing!! I just discovered fishing when I moved to Aylmer, Quebec side, close by the Ottawa River, just four years ago. And I honestly think that I lost so many years of my life not fishing. From that moment, my goal was to understand fish, understand fishing and become a good angler. That's my goal: research and discover new ways to fish and understand the environment around the fisheries. As soon the knowledge is proven, methodize the system to make it available for anglers that are just starting as I did. I love every moment outdoors. Is is always a great day for finishing!!!!
