Kingston and Rae

Posted On August 14, 2010

Well, it's been while and a lot has gone on. I fished the Kingston Open and had a lot of fun and learnt a lot. I drew 3 different co-anglers, which I had a great time with! Jonathon day 1, Ron day 2, and WFN Ambassador Paul Legacy day 3 (click here to read Paul's entry for our 3rd day). The bait business has been so busy that I only got two and a half days practice, which is tough on such a large body of water. I found some big largemouth 40 miles up the St. Lawrence on the Monday, which I ran to on day 3 with Paul. With the large rainfall during the week, the duckweed had flushed out and the bass had moved. I took a chance - in tournament fishing that's the way it goes! On the bright side, I met some great people and the City of Kingston was awesome! I plan to fish again next year and build on what I've found. I finished 36th about 3 lbs out of the money. Like Arnold says, "I'll be back."

On the return trip I fished an experimental format put together by the CSFL; a 3-man event on Quinte. On this occasion, I fished with good friend and Canadian tournament icon Dave Chong, and young up-and-commer Mike Morson. I fished from the back and had a blast! We weighed 16.60 lbs of largies and finished 3rd. My latest event was on Lake Muskoka, in which my long-time friend and tournament partner, Joe Cutajar, and myself finished 10th.

A week ago I got the opportunity to fish with an awesome young lady named Ashley Rae. Many of you know Ashley from her WFN dream fishing trip win. She is also on my Strike-Zone pro-staff. We decided to fish Lake Simcoe and Couchiching, and do a little filming for our YouTube channels. After a couple of large Simcoe smallies, I had a mechanical issue with my trolling motor. I would like to thank Brian Berrialt from Backwater Tackle in Midland and Terry Crawford for helping us out in the last minute. We got back out for 2 more hours and I filmed Ashley catching largemouth. The next day we headed to Georgian Bay where we filmed some more smallmouth drop-shot action. We fished till noon, as Ashley had to drive back to Kingston. It's great to spend time on the water with a young lady with the same passion for the sport as I have! We have already made plans to fish again soon.

On the Strike-Zone side things are crazy. After the BASS and FLW on Lake Champlain, we had several money finishes from Canadian and US anglers alike. My orders jumped dramatically after these events.

I have a rare weekend off from tourneys this weekend, but have lots to do including pre-fish for the following weekend. Hopefully I can keep the top-10 streak alive!

Till next time, keep it in the Strike-Zone!
