Game Hawg Scrappy Smallmouth

Posted On August 21, 2011
Man Have I been busy this summer. With the awesome weather conditions we are having in Ontario, I have taken full advantage of the opportunities to fish and film some awesome shows for Extreme Angler TV season 10 beginning this fall on WFNHD & WFN.

Here is one of those examples a while back while filming a show in the Haliburton Highlands region for smallmouth bass with Strike King Game Hawgs in deeper cabbage weed. Although the bite was somewhat slow and time consuming, the size of the bass were well worth every moment dunking my soft baits into every nook and cranny in the isolated weed beds. When the fish bite, their was no mistaking the strike..BAMM..the line either jumped or the strike was felt all the way to my hand thru the St.Croix Legend xtreme casting rods I was using. Matched up with Ardent fishouflage casting reels and 20 pound fluorocarbon lines, I rigged the game hawgs on a X-point 4/0 extra wide gap hook and used a free sliding Strike King tour grade tungsten worm weight to get to the bottom quickly where 90% of the bites came from.

Smallmouth Bass

Got one of my personal best smallmouth bass (that didn't include lake Simcoe or Erie...lol) that jumped 4 feet into the air upon hookset and fought like a wild dog on 15 feet of line...unforgetable.

This day was filled with alot of informative tips and tactics that I know will make for one very popular show for our fans.

Stay tuned for more updates when I`m not chasing these critters with fins on the water.

Jurassic Park Canuck Slabs

What a few days of sun and warmer temps can do for Ontario crappie. Over the past two weeks or so, I have been scouting various locations across Southern Ontario in search of some bigger than your hand-sized crappie with little to no luck. Sure, I could sink my boat with eight to ten inch crappie, but I would much rather locate, dominate and film a show with those big black slabs that

Road Trippin' to Crappie Heaven

Returned a short while back from one of my most enjoyable and entertaining road trips filming for season 11 of Extreme Angler TV to Tennessee and Mississippi in search of some monster crappie with my good buddies Tim Blackley and Jackie Vancleave of the Strike King pro crappie team. I have to admit, fishing for crappie with these guys is "intense" and as serious as it gets. Reminds me a lot of

Fall Brawling Smallmouth

Were do I begin? This late fall fishing for smallmouth bass on smaller inland cottage country lakes has been nothing short of "extremely incredible". Over the last 2 weeks, I have visited some of favorite smallmouth lakes in Ontario's near north cottage country in search of a big bass bite and have yet to be disappointed by the results, and what makes it even more exciting is capturing all

Touchdown with the Football Jig

Had a amazing day yesterday filming a show for Extreme Angler TV on a north-eastern Kawartha Lakes District lake using the Strike King Tour Grade Football jig and Baby Rage Craw trailer in summer craw tones. The weatherman finally got it correct, no rain and low winds made for perfect conditions to fish/film on a location that requires precise boat positioning very close to rock walls and rock

Tennesse Trippin'

Man, has this summer gone by in a flash. One day I`m preparing my boat and gear for Bass season opener, the next thing I know, I`m loading up my long johns and cold weather gear for autumn road trips. Just returned from my most recent road trip to sunny, warm Tennessee for my annual Strike King Lure Co. pro team writers conference where many of the media including (tv, publications, website
