The TTBC event had an exhibition expo along with the championship
...and so it begins... every year we kick things off with the Spring Fishing and Boat Show at the International Center and this year was no different. Friday came around and the masses lined up for a chance to see the latest gear, newest deals and drool on the boats, rods and reels. For me it was a break from the winter blahs and the editing side of Getting School’d which is in

Every once and a while we need a break from the constant freezing temps of winter so at 2:00 am on Thursday morning Charles, Todd and I loaded up our backpacks and drove to Buffalo to catch a 6 am flight out to San Antonio, Texas to spend a couple of days away from the ice and snow and hopefully catch some fish... the ice and snow was gone but the cold that has been gripping Texas was still
It's not my ideal day flipping bass in heavy cover with shorts on and a pair of flip flops but when it's January in Canada, it's the next best thing to getting on a plane and heading South. I was invited out today by Grant McAllister of G2 Angling to ice fish the Bay of Quinte for Walleye and it was an offer I found hard to refuse. One upon a time I was really into ice fishing and I mean

When trout are repeatedly rising for flies, My "Floating Menace" is the pattern to try. Tied parachute style, this fly is absolutely deadly when fish are feeding on insects trapped in the surface. The thing that sets parachute flies apart is the way the hackle is tied around a wing post, which sits upright at 90 degrees to the hook shank. ...FISH-ON!
This is the "fluttering" type of Mayfly. It is tied just contrary to a conventional fly; that is, the head of the fly starts at the rear of the hook instead of at the front of the hook. Tying a fly in this manner gives it a fluttering erratic action when slowly retrieved through the water. ... FISH-ON!

I didn't catch any fish. Just staying in practice I guess. Any time you can fish in January in Kentucky it's a good day. I just really wanted to test my new rod and reel. So, I didn't really go where I know the fish are this time. Still would have been nice to catch just one. You know what I'm talking about. You've been there, done that.
Mariko's Manitoba adventure starts with a journey to Budd's Gunisao Lake Lodge and shortly after getting off the plane Mariko and her guide Dusty are already on fish.

On our way to the Cabin we had to pull a 200lb sled with all our essentials on it for the weekend. It was loaded with canned soup, water, beer, butter, and other foods to hold us over, plus other things we may have needed. It was a struggle getting there but we made it. We fished for a couple days in -18 degree to -25 degree celcius weather and only got a couple pike to bite. It was fun and we

Raised in Southern Ontario, JP DeRose has had a passion for angling that has remained constant in his life. Throughout high school and University, JP’s ardor for competitive sports carried over into fishing and flourished while chasing Salmon and Trout drifting rivers which eventually led him to lake fishing and finally into tournaments. In 2005, JP decided to step into Canada’s highest level of fishing competition by entering the Pro-Am circuit as a boater after only 5 years of competing in small tournaments, winning Rookie of the Year in convincing fashion. In 2006, WFN (World Fishing Network) was created and filmed the Pro-Am Series. In an interview, JP was a natural in front the camera and represented WFN for that season as their sponsored pro. Winning the 3rd tour stop that year, JP quickly adapted to being in front of a camera and was sent to iCast to try his hand at interviewing which quickly led to his own show, a WFN original production called Getting School’d with JP DeRose. Now in its 4th season, Getting School’d has become an authority on new gear and instructional fishing. Dedicating his free time to the Canadian Bass Anglers Federation, JP has held the position of club president for the past 7 years and continues to grow his chapter dedicated to developing fishing at a grass roots level. With over 130 top 10 finishes and 30 wins in tournaments over the past 11 years, JP’s primary focus aside from Getting School’d and competing in tournaments is to help people become better anglers through seminars, breaking down the techniques and tactics that lead to angler versatility and success.
