Gear Review

So in 2011, I purchased a Mojo Bass 7' Med/Fast, loaded with a Johnny Morris baitcast reel, and 50lb Power Pro, I set out to learn how to baitcast.

My first few tries were in the yard with a knowledgeable family member, and before I knew it, I was pitching...and was very good at what they call a "birds nest". It is one Year later, I can pitch, flip, Cast underhand and overhand. Everything went really well. All I can say is Practice!!!! pitch to a cup in your garage or in your yard...YAYAYA the neighbors love it, but ya know what, he likes shining fake chrome instead of fishing, so keep pitchin' to that tree! The birds nests will get easier to take out, and eventually become fewer and more far between. The Mojo bass did very well in the thick cover of Scugog, and it had tremendous action with an X-rap out in the clear north waters (fluoro leader of course). 12LB Vanish to be exsact. The reel did its job winching them to the boat, and the Rod did an amazing job handling both the fish, and everything from soft plastics, to spinners, to cranks. Personally for Topwater or flipping I'm acquiring a 7'2"-7'8" med-hvy/fast or extra fast action. for the real thick junk....you need the power of a med-hvy. and the tip of a fast or extra fast. Maybe a chronarch/mossyback combo for this year??? all in all. I LOVED the Mojo Bass SOO much, i went and bought the same rod in a spinning configuration with a Pflueger supreme XT. the review for that will come when the warm water comes.

Spring Preperation.

First Thing on the list of to-do's was removing rusty hooks and replacing them with new hooks, sharpening dulled hooks. Then a quick inventory would reveal what had been lost, snagged, or found a new home. Off to the tackle shop, 2/0 through 6/0 worm hooks, assorted sized of Wacky rig hooks, weedless, and non-weedless, assorted bullet weights, an o-ring kit, and of course more soft plastics.

Fly Fishing Time again.

This will be my second year fly fishing, and oh how excited I am! I started with a Bass pro dogwood canyon cheap 5 weight 9 foot rod, and a white river kingfisher 5/6 reel poorly spooled with discount fly line and backing.    Let me start by saying, I did learn to cast several ways, and how to control my line and fly. but this is not the best outfit for the beginner, why? seeing as its

My tributary spinning combo, and some insight.

I Have the luxury of having a fishing family. We get to try things, and figure out what we like and don't like, at eachothers expense.   I currently am using a -10'3" (3" snapped off walking through the woods its my fault, the rod still works great) Shimano Convergence light/slow, with a Pflueger President. loaded with 30LB Power Pro, -a tall Thill Day/Night Float, -smallest barrel

Rise and Shine it's Steelheading Time!

Today was a Great day for fishing, not so much catching. we landed One First cast, first light. I Guided a good friend Justin, loaded with my float rod combo, he cast where I instructed, and effortlessly caught the gorgeous steely you see in the Thumbnail, released to fight another day.  Very nice sunny, calm day. Lots of bites, no commitments. but never fear they aren't going to
