Newbie...a brief history!

Posted On April 03, 2012
Hello!
Since I'm a newbie to this site, I figured I would give you all a brief history of myself!
My name is Lindsay. I have been fishing since I was a little girl. I remember when I was little I would sit on the living room floor with newspaper down, and play for hours with the worms in the worm box. I would drape them all over my arms and legs and even across my forehead!  I was always excited for it to rain, and early in the morning I would go out with my father and catch the little critters for the day of fishing!  I am 26 years old right now. I have fishing on and off since I was a little girl, but only within the last three yeas has it been somewhat of an obsession.  I think that also has to do with the fact that my boyfriend also LOVES to fish.  I very rarely fish without him!  We mostly fish on our local lake in Lanark County, Mississippi Lake.  First we shore fished. That was fun and all but then we decided we needed to upgrade and bought a canoe. WELL, if you have ever met me you would know that i am not someone who sits still for very long. I'm VERY squirmy, and can never get comfy. BUT we made the tipsy canoe work for as long as we could. Incredibly we never tipped!  I then got myself a kayak. I loved it. It was much sturdier than the canoe BUT that year I didn't have much time to go out fishing and the only days I could the water was so swift and choppy I couldn't get anywhere with the darn thing. Finally, we got the boat we have now. I don't know much about it, but its orange and small but its fast!  We had just enough room for our equiptment and ourselves in this boat, but it worked!  We had so much fun with that boat, until last summer(luckily right at the end of the summer) when the motor went. Currently we are boatless, BUT are looking hard so when summer comes we can get right back out there and catch some fish!  Most of our fish don't open until June anyways so its not a big deal right now, gives us time to find the perfect boat!

Could I offer you some dessert?!...

Tea? Crumpet? LAMPREY PIE?! Eww...yuck.  If you know what a lamprey is, it isn’t something that looks very appetizing.  A large wormlike parasite, a suction cup mouth, with teeth!  Just the look of these things turns me off of even the thought of making it into pie! BUT, the Royal family will be feasting on lamprey pie for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee!

Catchin' a great deal

I love to catch a great deal! I know, there are a ton of amazing lures out there.  Many of them costing at least $15/piece for a simple crank bait. Now, I'm sure the work amazingly, and I have some of the top of the line lures, BUT even if you don't have a ton of money to spend you can still find some great lures. Example!- my absolute favorite lures I buy from Walmart $3/each! They are

New Equipment

Recently I purchased some new equipment!  Only panfish are open right now, so it gives me some time to get some new gear for the upcoming fishing season! I needed a new tackle box...well, I just needed one of my own!  For the past years I borrowed some space in my boyfriends tackle bag.  I mostly use the same lures all year long(hey, they work!), but this year I decided I would

Zebra Mussels

I thought I would share some info on one of the many invasive species in the area- the zebra mussel.   I like zebras...and I like mussels....but i do NOT like zebra mussels. They make a mess of the shoreline, and are just awful!! They are EVERYWHERE too.  I was down shore fishing the other day and from where we were all you could see were those darn zebra mussels! This invasive species

FINALLY FISHING!!!

Finally got out for the first fish of the Spring...Woo!  It has been too long!  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE ice fishing, but there is nothing better than casting out over the calm water, listening to the birds and enjoying the sunset! Headed to the shore off the Riverside park to catch some sunfish or rock bass! ( They are mostly what can be caught at shore, but there are always the odd

Born and raised in a small town, fishing since I was a child. I have always loved to fish. I still remember sitting in the middle of the living room on pieces of newspaper playing with the worms from the worm box. Since I was a child, I guess you could say I was hooked! Wheather it be the middle of a hot summer, to the dead cold of winter...I love to fish!
