How to Hook Sand Fleas

First we will take a look at what type and size of hook to use while fishing with sand fleas (mole crabs).  The popularity of circle hooks is becoming more and more prevelent in all types of fishing including that of using sand fleas.  Also many folks use the kahle style of hook to use while fishing with sand fleas.  The size of the hook depends basically on the size of the bait (in this case sand fleas) being used.  Generally for circle hooks sizes between a size 2 and a size 1/0 are used,  If using kahle style hooks a size between  2 and 4 are generally usde.

Now we can look at how to actually hook the sand flea as to have the greatest opportunity of fooling the fish into thinking there are "no strings attached" to that sand flea they want to eat.  The sand fleas should be hooked up from underneath about 1/3 of the way toward the head.  The point of the hook is exposed just past the barb and parallel to the back of the sand flea.

A word about artificial sand fleas.  These little gems have definitely created a niche in my tackle arsenal.  There are times when you cannot dig for sand fleas due to time constraints or other factors.  In these times we start out by using the imitations so we have lines in the water while we dig for the "real McCoy" to pass the time between fish.  There you have it, a small guide to styles and sizes of hooks for use with sand fleas.  Also a few helpful tips thrown in for good measure.  Thank you as always for reading and tight lines all.

Bumbles, Fumbles and Backlashes

We have all experienced "Those Days" in our fishing times.  You know the kind of day where nothing at all seems to go right and the harder you try, the worse that it gets.  It may start out innocently enough as having trouble closing the car door only to find that the reason there is a problem is because you just broke your favorite rod while trying to close the car door.  You tell

Artificial Bait for Carp

Sure as the statement "Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus,"there is a product line of artificial baits for those of us who pursue carp.  They seem to perform very well also!  On more occassions that can be remembered (old-timers disease) we have caught carp using this line of fake baits. The baits come in a variety of shapes and carp pleasing flavors to choose from.  Some
