Anchor Point, AK

West Region
View Nomination
Anchor Point is the most westerly point of the North American connected highway system. In May 1778, one of the greatest explorers, Captain James Cook, sailed the ship Resolution into Cook Inlet. As he passed this location Cook lost one of the ship’s anchors, leading to the community’s name. The Anchor River provides salmon, dolly varden and steelhead fishing. Halibut and multispecies charters use the Anchor Point tractor launch for direct access to the saltwater from our undeveloped beach. Other famous rivers are nearby and local services provide fly out fishing, sightseeing and bear viewing trips.
