Heeeehehehehe…sorry, just having a giggle at my title.
Well, it’s that time of year full of new beginnings. With fall approaching, comes warmer clothes, pumpkin lattes and….Hookin’ Up updates! So here it goes:
I’ve been very busy the past few months filming Season 4 of Hookin’ Up. So far, I’ve traveled to Nicaragua, Manitoba, Nashville, New Brunswick and Alaska! All really great places for very different reasons.
Nicaragua was full of happy and welcoming locals, fresh and delicious food, and freshwater Tarpon fishing...
...while in Manitoba, I got to experience a family run walleye fishing outfitter and some Catfishing on the Red...
...in Nashville, I was up to all sorts of fun stuff including flyfishing for Bass and appearing in Craig Campbell’s music video for "Fish"...
...New Brunswick was full of super friendly people and beautiful rivers full of Atlantic Salmon...
...and lastly, Alaska, was everything I imagined it to be and more! We went shrimping, crabbing, Salmon fishing, and the list goes on. You’ll have to watch the episodes to see more!
As with all of my travels, I learnt a lot. So I thought it would be fun to compile a short list of some of the fun bits of info I’ve acquired over the past few months.
I’ve learned ---
That in order to become a Master Angler in the province of Manitoba, one must catch a walleye that is 28 inches or longer.
That if you’re going to go to just one country bar in downtown Nashville, go to the super rockin’, super authentic Robert’s Western World (and if you’re up for something a little more off the beaten path, and generally awesome – go to Station Inn).
That if you want to try something completely new, watching amateur wrestling at the Stadium Inn is probably one of the best decisions you’ll ever make.
That you know a Salmon is male if they’ve developed a kype. I’ve known for a while now that you can distinguish a male Salmon from a female one by their mouths, but never knew the proper term for that hooked lip was kype!
That Hole in the Wall is my favourite place to grab a beer in Ketchikan. If you like comfy spaces, impromptu live music and overall wicked fun, you’ll like this place too.
That the original name for Halibut is Hippoglossus and is derived from haly (holy) and butt (flat fish), for its popularity on Catholic holy days – I know this thanks to Ketchikan artist Ray Troll (and Wikipedia of course!).
That Creek Street in Ketchikan, Alaska is the only place where both Salmon and Men go to spawn. Or at least, that was the case in the 1930’s! (look up Dolly's).
Sounds exciting right? I can’t wait for the new season to air so make sure your service provider carries WFN so you don’t miss any of these super fun, super fishy episodes! If you don’t have the channel, get on the phone and call 1-877 – 7GET –WFN
