Elongated dorsal and anal fin, deeply forked tail. Maximum Size 25 pounds (11.3 kg) is a more common big-sized fish, but permit can reach upwards of 50 pounds (22.7 kg). Geographic Range In the western Atlantic Ocean, from Massachusetts and as far south as Brazil. Habitat Grass flats, sand flats, and channels when close to shore, but venture offshore to spawn.
