With the holiday season in full swing, the IGFA has released a brand new batch of potential all-tackle and all-tackle (length) world record catches. As always, these catches are currently undergoing the review process, and as such are not officially world records at this time.
We start things off this week with two catches from Ichiro Nagai, M.D. On Aug. 30, Nagai was fishing Mongolia’s Ur River when he landed a Taimen that measured in at 98 cm. A few days later, while fishing in Kawasaki, Japan, he landed a Japanese (Suzuki) Seabass that measured in at 65 cm. Both fish were caught using a Skater Mouse.
Emil Terry was fishing off of Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands on Sept. 28 when he landed a potential all-tackle world record escolar. The monster weighed in at 173 lbs, 12 oz, and measured 187.96 cm. Terry used strip bait to land the escolar.
From the end of October to mid-November, Scott Tindale of New Zealand went on quite a roll. On Oct. 29, in Gulf Harbour, he landed a parore that weighed 2 lbs and measured 39 cm. Tindale used a mussel as bait. And then, over a three day stretch, he added three more notches (potentially) to his world-record belt. On Nov. 12, while fishing with pilchard in Army Bay, he landed a greenback horse mackerel that weighed 1 lb, 4 oz, and measured 37.5 cm. Two days later, he caught a squirefish snapper that measured in at 68 cm, using mackerel as bait. And the following day, off of Hibiscus Coast, he landed a blue mackerel that weighed 4 lbs, 11 oz, and measured 55 cm.
On Nov. 6, Masaaki Sudoh was fishing in Amagi, Japan, when he landed a potential all-tackle world record titan triggerfish. It weighed 4 lbs, 8 oz, measured 47 cm and was caught on a Crazy Charlie.
Yoshikatsu Higuchi was fishing in Togawa, Japan on Nov. 12 when he landed a dainan-anago that weighed 9 lbs, 9 oz and measured 124 cm. Higuchi used a sardine to land the unusual fish.
On the same day, Fabricio Bigua landed a blue peacock that weighed 10 lbs and measured in at 61 cm. The fish was caught in Brazil’s Serra da Mesa Lake, using a Imakatsu Trainao.
Finally, Jean-Francois Helias landed a potential all-tackle world record lagleri barb on Nov. 28 in Laos’s Luang Prabang. The fish weighed 1 lb, 11 oz, measured in at 30 cm and was caught using rice husk flour.
