2012 has arrived, and the IGFA has released a brand new batch of recently approved record catches.
During a 10 day period last August, Martini Arostegui caught three world record fishes – quite a feat! On Aug. 3, he landed a red grouper off the coast of Bimini in the Bahamas. It was caught with a live snapper, and measured in at 69 cm. A week later, on Aug. 10, Arostegui landed a mirianae peacock that weighed 9 lbs and measured in at 66.04 cm. It was caught on a Yo-Zuri swimbait in Brazil’s Ronuro River. And on Aug. 13, Arostegui landed a granulated catfish in Brazil’s Xingu River. It was caught using a live worm, weighing in at 15 lbs, 8 oz, and measuring in at 74.93 cm.
On Aug. 26, Sue Tindale landed a record sweep off the coast of New Zealand’s Little Barrier Island. The sweep weighed in at 1 lb, 4 oz, measured in at 27.5 cm, and was caught using a live pilchard.
Keshin Harrison got quite the thrill on Aug. 29 when he landed a record broomtail grouper. The monster weighed in at 62 lbs and measured in at 137.16 cm. It was caught at Panama’s Tropic Star Lodge, using a live bonito as bait.
Finally, Michael Romano landed a record all-tackle (length) Chinook salmon on Sept. 3 in Michigan’s Muskegon River. It measured in at 84 cm and was caught using a Hot ‘n Trot crankbait.
