GEAR TERMINAL TACKLE/LINE Posted Jan 16, 2015 Introducing the Ice Auger Go Kart Adam Ford, project manager at a machine and fabrication shop, was pulling his ice fishing gear home through a nasty storm when he started thinking of ways to make the trek easier using his ice auger motor. When he arrived home he immediately began developing his auger motor powered vehicle, the Ice Auger Go Kart Machine. Currently in the prototype stage, this rear wheel drive go-kart is simple, creative, and will cost significantly less than a snowmobile. The auger motor attaches to the mounting bracket on the front of the kart and its handle doubles as a steering wheel. The prototype weights 105 lbs and can reach seven to 10 miles per hour on the ice, though Ford claims it can go faster by changing the gears. The front wheels can be swapped for skies and the seat lifts up to reveal a small storage compartment. In order to fund this innovative machine, Adam has launched a Kickstarter page to help him raise money and get production off the ground. He is looking for $30,000 in order to fund a better, user-friendly design with new features such as a new drive system, a footrest, better tires and a lighter frame. If a "backer" pledges $600-$899 they will be rewarded one of the first improved models without an auger motor or a bit. By pledging $900 or more backers receive the Ice Auger Go Kart Machine with a brand new auger powerhead and bit from an undetermined brand. Adam plans to beginning shipping these models within the United States in November 2015. via OutdoorHub Click here for more gear articles & videos!
